Metrics for Venafi Kubernetes Agent

Overview

Venafi Kubernetes Agent serves Go runtime metrics, Process metrics, and some bespoke metrics related to the operations of the agent. By default, the HTTP metrics server listens on TCP port 8081 on all interfaces. The Prometheus text based format is used. There are various metrics configuration options in the Helm chart.

PodMonitor for Prometheus Operator

The Helm chart also includes an optional PodMonitor resource, which you can enable if you use the Prometheus operator. Here is an example Helm values file which will enable the optional PodMonitor:

values.venafi-kubernetes-agent.yaml
metrics:
  enabled: true
  podmonitor:
    enabled: true

Venafi Kubernetes Agent metrics

  • jscp_agent_data_readings_upload_size (GAUGE): Data readings upload size (in bytes) sent by the jscp in-cluster agent.

Info

The acronym "JSCP" stands for "Jetstack Secure Control Plane" and "JCSP Agent" is the former name of Venafi Kubernetes Agent.

Reference

You can query the metrics endpoint and fetch the current metrics data as follows:

POD_NAME=$(kubectl get pod -n venafi -l app.kubernetes.io/name=venafi-kubernetes-agent -o jsonpath='{ .items[0].metadata.name }')
kubectl get --raw "/api/v1/namespaces/venafi/pods/${POD_NAME}:8081/proxy/metrics" | grep -A1 'HELP'
