Creating new notifications in the Notification Center

It's important that the right people have the right information at the right time to manage and protect your machine identities. Create new notifications to ensure key stakeholders know about important system events.

Before you begin

Certificate expiration notifications require the certificate monitoring service to be enabled and configured. Before setting up certificate expiration notifications, make sure that the monitoring service is correctly configured.

To create a new notification

  1. Sign in to Venafi Control Plane.
  2. Click Configurations > Notification Center.

  3. Click New.

  4. Configure the Event Details.

    • Give the event notification a Name. You'll see it in the Notification Center as the notification's title.
    • Select the Event that triggers the notification.

      Event Description
Certificate Expiration Sends notifications before a certificate is about to expire. The certificate monitoring service defines the time for each threshold. In Notification Center, you link the notification to a specific threshold.
Certificate Manager Certificate Resource Health This is an event for cert-manager resources and will get triggered when the resource switches to healthy or unhealthy. Learn more
Certificate Manager Issuance Health This is an event for cert-manager issuance and will get triggered when the agent switches to healthy or unhealthy. Learn more
VSatellite Health This is an event for VSatellite and will get triggered when the specific VSatellite switches to healthy or unhealthy. Learn more

      Note

You can't change the event later. If you decide you want a notification for a different event, just create new one for that event.

    • Click Add Filter.

Depending on the event type, the options here differ, but select a filter type, then use the Operator and Value boxes to define the filter. Click the Add Filter link to save your filter configuration.

Applications must be monitored to send expiration notifications

To receive certificate expiration notifications, the applications you select must be monitored by the certificate monitoring service. Ideally, you should monitor all applications in a policy. You can then use filters on the notifications to exclude any applications you don't want notifications for.

    • Specify any Advanced Criteria using Common Expression Language (CEL) Filters. Learn more about Advanced Criteria.

    • Click Continue.
  5. Specify the Delivery Channel Details.

    • Pick a Delivery Channel. (Currently, the only available channel is Email).

    • Specify Recipients.

You must provide at least one recipient in any of the three email fields. You can select users or groups.

  6. Click Save.

The system stores and enables the new notification.
